What We Do

Social dialogue for environment

In Libya, only about 30% of the population has access to running water and is connected to a sewage system. In the south of the country, there is no municipal solid waste management system, which is thus dispersed in nature or improperly disposed of, creating a threat to the environment and the sanitary conditions of the population.

Through the project SDE- Social Dialogue for Environment, COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale, leads the consortium formed with CEFA in the municipalities of Tripoli, Ghat, Brak e Qatrun to improve the delivery and quality of services offered to the population. The project is financed by AICS - Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo under the call for proposals AID 11571/01/1.

COOPI supports the municipalities through the development of municipal plans for solid waste management, the training of technicians and municipal officials and the implementation of small infrastructure works. At the same time, it sets up multi-stakeholder tables for participatory discussion on the environment involving local authorities and civil society representatives to promote dialogue and consultation between the parties. The project will benefit almost 74,000 people who will enjoy improved access to environmental sanitation services provided by the municipalities.
