Ensuring food security and building resilient livelihoods for communities

At COOPI, food security and resilient livelihoods are central to our work. We address the complex causes and effects of food insecurity, from emergency response to long-term development.  Our approach combines immediate relief with long-term development strategies, enabling communities worldwide to achieve food security and build resilient livelihoods. By collaborating with local councils, national authorities, and other stakeholders, we drive systemic change and ensure lasting impact.

We implement context-specific solutions, focusing on sustainable agriculture, livestock support, and natural and environmental resource management to strengthen food systems in rural and urban communities. By promoting climate-smart farming practices, livelihood diversification, biodiversity conservation, and resource management, COOPI helps communities adapt to climate change, reducing the impact of environmental shocks. In emergencies, we provide immediate food assistances, while building resilience through social safety nets and income-generating activities.

COOPI takes a holistic approach, integrating food security with nutrition, water access, hygiene, and health to maximize impact for communities. We prioritize access to clean water, sanitation services, and healthcare, ensuring that improvements in food security contribute to overall well-being. Our work also includes efforts to mitigate conflict over resource management, safeguard food systems, and foster social cohesion.

COOPI’s focus extends to reducing vulnerabilities: we pay special attention to vulnerable groups such as women, children, and marginalized communities, ensuring that their unique needs are addressed.  By building the capacity of individuals and families, COOPI addresses both local and systemic vulnerabilities.

By integrating food security with broader sectoral initiatives, including health, education, and environmental conservation, COOPI aims to promote sustainable development.
