Ethiopia. Awareness and preventive measures against Covid-19
Ethiopia – At the onset of the outbreak COVID-19, under the project "Emergency initiative for vulnerable returnee and potential migrant populations to mitigate the causes of irregular migration in Bale, Arsi and Western Arsi Zones of Oromia region" funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), COOPI started raising awareness among the targeted communities in the Bale Zone of Ethiopia.
Hand washing facilities
COOPI held awareness-raising sessions explaining what coronavirus is, how it can be transmitted and which are the prevention measures to adopt. Village committees received disinfectant, soap and sanitizer while COOPI staff installed public hand washing facilities in the villages.
Distribution of material
In addition, COOPI selected two hygiene and sanitation promoters among each community. Their task is to alert and advise communities about the current global pandemic.
Lastly, during the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) training, COOPI invited participants to spread the information received on COVID-19, so that most of the population could implement the recommended preventive measures.
