Haiti Emergency: delivery of humanitarian assistance after Matthew

Once again in Haiti unity is strength. Afterwards Hurricane Matthew's transit in the country, population in Haiti needs urgent aid and COOPI worked together with local partners' network with the aim to meet emercency needs.

For those who lost their houses, swept away by the water, there are many needs, but it is essencial that everyone keeps high attention to health hazard.

Distribuzione kit emergenza ad Haiti

"Thanks to the first distributions we did during these days, in our intervention areas, we helped  49 families in Thiotte (south-east of Haiti) and 80 families in Tabarre (at Port-au-Prince in the west)" told us Morena Zucchelli, head of mission for COOPI in Haiti "Tanks for water, chlorine and blankets were delivered to Civil Protection Headquarters and in some cases straight to the houses of the most vulnerable families".

The partnership with local intervention network was essention in this area, where COOPI has worked since 2010 in various educational projects for Disaster Reduction, supported by ECHO (the EU Humanitarian Aid) and by OFDA/USAID (United States Agency for International Development).

It is still essential to intervene immediately and supply clean water, disinfectant kits, hygiene products. COOPI made an appeal in order to face emergency and to control the cholera risk: with only 70 euros it is possible to buy a water-softener, fundamental in a place where the community makes use of river and canal waters contaminated by garbage.
