Jordan. Support for microenterprises relaunches Enas' life
Enas Munshed is a 28-year-old young woman living in Jordan. Thanks to the project “Saqel: Pathways to professional growth for inclusive economic development in the Governorates of Zarqa and Irbid” carried out by COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale and funded by the Italian Development Cooperation Agency (AICS), she became a cell phone repairer, a traditionally male job.
Enas shares:
I did not expect to learn so much from the course and to have as many benefits from the project! I always had the idea that this job is mainly for men and it never occurred to me to learn this skill. One of the main reasons I was intrigued to take this course is the issue of security in terms of privacy: handing over the phone as a woman to a male phone technician culturally has its downsides and is not always feasible.
Enas came up with the idea of creating a "safety net" for women who want to repair their own phones. She had been working in her family's convenience store for almost two years, but thanks to the course, she began integrating cell phone repair services into the business and informing all neighbors that she offered this service. Since then, Enas has repaired nearly 60 phones and her business is flourishing by generating more cash flow, leading her to expand her business due to demand from other repairers who rely on her for some freelance commissions.
For Enas, this is just the beginning; clients are increasing by the day. This opportunity has made her proud of herself and the decision she made!
The project "Saqel: Pathways to professional growth for inclusive economic development in the Governorates of Zarqa and Irbid" fosters the creation of decent work opportunities for Syrian refugees and the Jordanian community and consequently addresses the livelihood needs of those living in extremely difficult situations. The project is led by COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale, with funding from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and in collaboration with the Italian Association of Women for Development (AIDOS), Education for Employment Jordan (EFE) and Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) from March 2022.
