Paraguay. New means of communication to strengthen disaster preparedness
COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale presented its experience at the regional workshop "Strengthening disaster preparedness to face systemic risk in complex scenarios: challenges and opportunities" (13 to 16 April 2021), organised by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
The practice chosen for the workshop concerned the regional project "Multi-country approach to strengthen inclusion and protection in disaster risk management capacities of public institutions, authorities, and civil society in Colombia, Peru and Paraguay", implemented in the country by COOPI, in association with Humanity & Inclusion and with the financial support of the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).
In the framework of this project, the presentation showed COOPI's work in the department of Alto Paraguay, characterised by activities carried out to improve connectivity through the installation of mobile signal amplification antennas in the most remote indigenous areas of the country.
Through the implementation of such means of communication, COOPI aims to increase the inclusion and protection of the most vulnerable people and to enable them to face more effectively the risks of natural disasters at local, national and regional levels.
