Ecuador, access routes to regularization of children and adolescents in conditions of human mobility

Within the framework of the project “Better conditions of access to protection and security for Venezuelan children and adolescents and their families in transit and / or residing in Ecuador”, implemented by COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale, together with its strategic partner UNICEF, under the funding of the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Department (ECHO) and the Government of Canada, took place the workshop of validation of international protection instruments and socialization of access routes to regularization of children and adolescents in conditions of human mobility, in the Los Cipreses Room of the Mercure Alameda Hotel, in the city of Quito.

The main objective of this national meeting was to join efforts among the different actors in the construction and implementation of Local Systems for the Protection of Comprehensive and effective Rights for children and adolescents in the context of human mobility. Belén Ramos, COOPI Ecuador’s Program Coordinator, highlighted the importance of the national workshop as a sample of the various COOPI interventions in different sectors in the country, as well as the organization's work in the region through humanitarian assistance programs. José Luis Guerra, UNICEF Ecuador Protection Officer, pointed out that children and adolescents suffer a greater violation of their rights when they are in a context of human mobility, therefore “processes such as this project are necessary to reach children, identify strategies and follow up on their rights ”.

In this way, technicians from COOPI, UNICEF, the National Council for Equality in Human Mobility, the National Council for Intergenerational Equality, and the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion-MIES, received training through group activities and exchange of experiences to give an adequate response to the Venezuelan migrant population in Ecuador, especially in the current context of COVID-19 emergency.

The Project “Better conditions of access to protection and security for Venezuelan children and adolescents and their families in transit and / or residing in Ecuador” covers the provinces of Guayas, Manabí, El Oro, Carchi and Sucumbíos.

This activity was carried out on September 17 and 18, respecting bio-security and capacity limitation measures (30%).
