High Dreams Market - a celebration of hope and creativity in Jordan

On December 5th and 6th, 2024, the Souq Bab Al Madina in Al Zarqa came alive with the vibrant energy of the High Dreams Market. This inspiring event, organized by COOPI-Cooperazione Internazionale under “Bhotoor- Inclusive growth and development of micro-entrepreneurial activities and economic empowerment” project, brought together over 50 participants, including Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians, who showcased their products in an atmosphere brimming with hope and creativity under a roof full of clouds and kites.

The bazaar, themed around clouds and kites symbolizing dreams and the paths to achieving them, was more than just a market. It was a demonstration to the resilience and determination of its participants.

As part of the market’s launching activities, a panel discussion featured three entrepreneurs who shared their journeys to success, made possible with the support of COOPI and the Bothoor Project. Among them was Akram Hourani, a participant specializing in crafting leather bags for women, who shared:

My mother supported me and encouraged me to register in the Bothoor project to improve my business. Through the project, I now have a logo and a brand called "Konouz". This support has been instrumental in taking my work to the next level.”

Interestingly, Akram’s mother is also a participant in the Bothoor project, demonstrating how the initiative has positively impacted entire families by fostering mutual growth and collaboration.

Ayat, another participant with a hearing disability, spoke about overcoming challenges:

I wanted to start my own business because I often faced discrimination due to my disability. In the Bothoor project, I felt welcomed and was treated equally, just like all the other participants. This support has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams.”

Visitors to the bazaar were treated to a diverse array of products, each reflecting the unique talents and hard work of the participants. From handmade crafts to delicious local delicacies, the market was a showcase of creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.

High Dreams Market not only provided a platform for these talented individuals to display and market their work but also fostered a sense of community and mutual support. It was a celebration of dreams, both big and small, and a reminder that with determination and the right support, anything is possible.

The design of the bazaar and its intent to celebrate the resilience of the Jordanian population, fully reflects the mission and objectives of the Bothoor project. Funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the project focuses on creating income opportunities for vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian refugees, particularly women, youth and people with disabilities. Operating in multiple governorates, including Zarqa, Irbid, Russaifah, Mafraq, and Tafileh, the project aims to enhance economic resilience by providing training, upskilling, and entrepreneurship support. Participants have developed skills in handicrafts, food production, and branding, empowering them to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute actively to the local economy.
