Lebanon: youngsters start beach clean-up
Between April 16th and April 18th, students from 3 schools in nothern Lebanon joined a beach clean-up in Al Mina Beach (Tripoli) and Chakka Beach (Chekka). The activity- falling under “ScEGLi program: Schools and Education in Jordan and Lebanon”, financed by AICS (the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation)- was carried out thanks to the support and coordination of school supervisors as well as of the municipalities of Chakka and Mina (a neighborhood in Tripoli).
The beach cleanup featured 145 young volunteers, divided as follows:
- Bterram School: 64 students, 5th-6th grade, aged 11-16;
- Dawhat al Adab School: 36 students, 6th grade, aged 12-16;
- Al Oula for Boys School: 45 students, 5th-6th grade, aged 11-16.
The purpose of such activity was to encourage younger generations to take care of the environment , to protect it and to keep the beaches clean so as to live in a clean and healthy environment. Teamwork also allowed to develop more cohesiveness between participants.
