The presence of COOPI in Ethiopia
COOPI primarily introduced good practices in the areas of WASH and FSL services, improved basic sanitation and access to water for displaced and non-displaced communities, and promoted efficient irrigation systems to improve food security among pastoral and vulnerable communities.
By promoting energy-saving stoves and solar energy, COOPI not only encouraged the development of economic initiatives at local level, but it also helped developing a more integrated and careful approach to the protection of natural resources among communities.
COOPI in Ethiopia today
In Ethiopia, COOPI implements both emergency and development projects in collaboration with several institutions and organizations operating in the country, promoting - wherever possible - the transition from emergency management to a more sustainable development. COOPI is most active in Oromia, Amhara and the Somali Region, which witness violent clashes and social tensions among the country's main ethnic groups.
Today, COOPI primarily promotes food security and business development, water and hygiene and access to sustainable sources of energy, especially in rural contexts.
